Analyzing collaboration and interaction in learning environments to form learner groups

چکیده
In recent years there has been a huge increase in the use of systems that support collective learning processes in which groups of students collaborate to achieve common goals (Gress, Fior, Hadwin, & Winne, 2010). The research field of CSCL (Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning) studies how to take advantage of technology to improve these collective processes (Dillenbourg, Jarvela, & Fischer, 2009). Thus, nowadays learners are used to holding discussions within the subjects they are studying in forums and sharing tasks and materials with other students. CSCL systems can also enable collaborative problem-solving activities (Alavi & Dillenbourg, 2012) by providing shared workspaces where learners create solutions (source codes of computer programs, models, etc.) that solve specific tasks proposed by the teacher.

Teacher Wait-Time and Learner Initiation: A Single Case Analysis
The prevailing pattern of classroom interaction is a tripartite exchange structure known as IRF (teacher initiation, student response, teacher follow-up/feedback; Sinclair & Coulthard, 1975). Although it has its own contributions to classroom discourse, it has been criticized on several grounds, particularly for affording minimum learner participation opportunities (Kasper, 2001). An alternativ...

This study aims at empirically measuring a universal criterion for materials evaluation, i.e., learning opportunities, in a locally- and a globally-designed materials. Adopting the conceptual framework of sociocultural theory and its conceptualization of learning as participation (Donato, 2000), the researchers utilized the methodological power of conversation analysis to examine how opportunit...

With the emergence of learner-centered approaches to teaching, the importance of learnerautonomy becomes more and more evident. In addition, there are many of elements inEnglish teaching/learning environments that may affect the EFL language learner'sautonomous learning. Thus, this study was conducted, aiming to find out the extent towhich students think the autonomy of ...
متن کاملAnalyzing and supporting collaboration in cooperative computer-mediated communication
Two methods for fostering collaborative behavior are compared: a feedback-mechanism to scaffold collaborative behavior, and use of distributed learning resources. Based on recent research on what constitutes effective collaboration behavior, we developed a coding scheme to categorize learner-learner interaction as collaboration. In a collaboration environment for learner dyads specifically impl...
متن کاملDesigning collaborative learning model in online learning environments
Introduction: Most online learning environments are challenging for the design of collaborative learning activities to achieve high-level learning skills. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to design and validate a model for collaborative learning in online learning environments. Methods: The research method used in this study was a mixed method, including qualitative content analysis and...
